40 Years & 4,000 Miles: We’re Proud to Sponsor Bliss Sawyer’s Cross-Country Ride

When planning your 40th wedding anniversary celebration, you might be thinking dinner at a nice restaurant or a romantic getaway. How about a 4,000-mile bicycle trip instead?

Bliss Sawyer, a senior loan officer at Security Home Mortgage, is planning a cross-country trip with her husband, Robert Sawyer, a retired professor of exercise physiology. On June 20, their anniversary, the Saratoga Springs couple will begin their journey in Bellingham, Wash., where they first met. They hope to finish their trip in coastal New Jersey in about three months.

It’s all for good causes, too. Their goal is to raise $100,000 for Tabitha’s Way Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity. To help supporters follow along and participate, the couple also created a playful “Bike Bingo” fundraiser. Donate at least $25 to receive a unique bingo card filled with possible moments from the trip, such as “over 30 mph headwind” or “pass horse & buggy.” The Sawyers will be posting updates on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube throughout their journey.

The Sawyers’ bicycling adventures span 25 years and include trips to Norway and the United Kingdom. “The magic of seeing the country from a bicycle is that you can really take it all in at a slower pace while meeting new friends along the way,” Bliss Sawyer said. “This is a once in a lifetime journey and we’ve been planning this for a long time. We’re so excited.”
